When I get in a certain mood sometimes, I start to consider that maybe utilitarianism is a symptom of a deeper issue, which is the failure to recognize the costs of rational choice theory and the benefits of irrationality.  We fail to see the costs of cost/benefit analysis.

Then again, maybe not.  That would assume that utilitarianism is rational, which it isn't.
