There is a long tradition in western theology which I call "not-quite-Gnosticism".  I'm tempted to say that western theology - and western philosophy - simply is the tradition of not-quite-Gnosticism.  That's an overstatement, but not much of one.

St. Augustine is the most obvious example. 

A more recent example is Jacques Lacan.  Lacan's Imaginary-Symbolic-Real trinity is a perfect example of not-quite-Gnosticism.
