There's something fundamentally unserious about politicians. 

When I think of the most important people of the 20th century, none of them are politicians. 

I just don't think politicians matter that much.  I don't think they've ever accomplished anything particularly noteworthy - and that goes for both positive and negative accomplishments, although they certainly seem much more capable of negative accomplishments - wars, genocides, atrocities, etc. - than positive ones.  The art of being a politician seems to belong to the realm of entertainment and public relations.  (Zappa had that famous phrase, of which there are a few versions: "Politics is the entertainment wing of the military-industrial complex," or the one he explicitly advocated but did not claim to originate, "Politics is the entertainment wing of industry.")  To me, this seems equally true of Kamala Harris and V. I. Lenin.  

Maybe this has always been the case, but it seems more true than ever.  Spencer Pratt recently ran for mayor of Los Angeles.  Donald Trump supported his campaign - undoubtedly he saw a bit of himself in the younger man.  The former porn actress, Ilona Staller, more popularly known as Cicciolina, had a career in the Italian parliament - and why not?  Why should we discriminate against sex workers?  (She was also briefly married to the artist Jeff Koons.)  She wasn't the only one: Italy, in particular, has had quite a few porn-star-cum-politicians: Moana Pozzi, Milly D'Abbraccio, and so on.  We've had a few in the U.S.A. as well, such as Mimi Miyagi and Mary Carey.  The former bodybuilder and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger was governor of California, and the pro wrestler in the WWF, Jesse "the Body" Ventura was governor of Minnesota (of course, Trump himself had his time in the WWF as well).  Sonny Bono was a songwriter and musician; Ronald Reagan was an actor.

My point is not so much that entertainers are subhuman, but simply that politics is something that entertainers do after retirement from their real career.

I don't doubt that politicians are a kind of necessity, but it's hard for me, especially nowadays, to take them seriously. 

It seems that politicians are becoming more and more of a farce right now, just at the time that we need serious leadership and serious action.  Humanity faces the greatest challenge it has ever faced: the world is being taken over by AI.  I just hope this rag-tag group of has-been entertainers can get it together enough to face it.

Against Curtis Yarvin, a.k.a. Mencius Moldbug

Lenin the Moralist

  "Unprincipled practical politics are the most impractical politics."  - V. I. Lenin  It will probably cause me to lose friends all across the political spectrum when I say that the problem with Lenin was that he was too moral.  Deal with it.  Moreover, modern-day soi-disant Leninists are even more moralistic than he was - and therefore, all the more romantic and delusional, and their analyses all the more pointless.
