Jesus in Hell: Day 1, Part 3
Previous chapter: Day 1, Part 2
More "worms" are crawling toward you from every direction. You hold up your "badge." The worms don't have eyes, but they seem to wince as if it's too bright. The ones directly in front of it wriggle away, as if afraid. You move the badge and point it at others, and one by one, they slither away as well. But others are slinking around behind you. You whip around and scare them off as well.
You turn this way and that, repelling the worms as they advance on you from all sides. As you do this, you slowly make your way back to the wall of worms. You're able to get through it now by repelling them with your badge.
This is successful, but on the other side, you are greeted by the appearance of a much larger and more menacing worm. What's worse, it doesn't seem scared by your badge and begins to chase you. Your only choice is to run away. You're running through an underground tunnel, pursued by worms, and then it opens out into a much larger - huge - underground cavern. You reach the top of a rise in the road, and then look out over a steep outcrop and see it spreading out before you:
Sheol.
A swell of strings.
You just get a glimpse, because you're still running, but for a moment a vast geography reveals itself. You see a gigantic, majestic city, with hanging gardens. You see mountains, and some kind of movement up the side of a mountain. Strange, magical rivers. Black oceans, filled with ghostly ships. Desert. A disembodied head is flying around. The black sun beating down on it all.
Your reverie is interrupted by the appearance of more corpselike beings, surrounding you and itching for a fight. These ones are zombielike. You see no flicker of intelligence in their eyes - they simply stagger forward, menacingly. One of them hisses at you with an animalistic hunger, as if it wants to eat you. Instinctively, you get into a fighting stance. You hold up the badge. They, too, wince, but nonetheless they keep coming toward you. One the left, another of them leans in and swipes at you, growling. Instinctively, you swing the badge toward them. The zombie bonks back, as if repelled by an invisible shield. You take the opportunity and run.
As you run, you are startled by another extraordinary sight: descending from the top of this giant chamber, you see Him: Jesus.
He's beautiful, shining - for a moment he seems golden, in perfect symmetry, as he gradually floats down in the far distance. Then, as he continues to fall, his body gradually turns and it becomes clear that it is limp, lifeless. It's still beautiful, but horrifying and tragic at once. He disappears behind some trees and buildings in the distance, noiselessly. You are left wondering if that even happened or if it was merely a vision.
Cut to: behind your back, a heavy, bald figure is inching closer, a dagger in his hand.
Cut back to your face. Your eyes shift to the right, and there's a smirk on your lips. You whip around and give a roundhouse kick to the figure's hand, knocking the dagger to the ground.
"Ow!" shouts the big figure, running away. "What the...?" He disappears into a crowd of zombies.
